Alchemy of Memories

About the exhibitions

The past has a quiet way of being present, and thus, dreams, visions, and memories act as a thread in the fabric of realities. What remains in time are fragments of those memories, which we’re beginning to listen!Kalakriti Art Gallery presents Alchemy of Memories bringing togethera group of eleven artistic expressions by putting up a coveted line-up of Residency Artists, Dinar Sultana Putul, Ekta Singha, Navjot Sohal, Krishna Trivedi, Akshita Aggarwal, Krishnal Fulwala, Biplab Sarkar, Ajaysingh Bhadoriya, Ajikumar , Midhun Gopi and Prabhakar Sahoo. The process of art making in the contemporary era is continually evolving in leaps and bounds. History has shown that there have been unprecedented outbursts of creativity and innovation in the arts during adverse political climates. Artists have experimented with mediums for many centuries now, especially during periods of great turmoil. However, the current contemporary art world boasts of a different kind of evolution – one in which simply using non-conventional mediums doesn’t fit the bill. Artists are increasingly experimenting with form, subject matter, composition, color palettes and stylistic approaches. The days of mimesis are long gone, and bringing conceptually superior standpoints in artworks is of primary importance to most practicing artists today. The purpose is not just to experiment and create works on a hit-and-trial basis; artists are making an attempt to go deep into the nature of their mediums and find ways to re-invent traditions, so to speak. The transformative potential of art work to re-imagine lived realities, to imagine unseen visions and lead us to navigate through them is truly astonishing. In an attempt to unravel changing perceptions, this exhibition explores art and subconscious memories which is a residue of our witnessing, the times lived and the life experienced in today’s fast-changing cultural milieu. In addition, the works also focus on conceptualizing memories and the impact of time on our existence through a number of mediums and stylistic approaches ranging from abstract to dramatization and minimalism.
