THE CULT OF REINCARNATION BY Sanjoy Patra

There are numerous stories of different God and Goddesses reside in Hindu mythologies which are very significant in today’s technological life. Based on Hindu mythology discussed in Ramayana, Mahabharata or Purana, there are so many stories narrated with the characters are the main subjects of my paintings.

In contemporary art practices, my predominant interest in recent years is these stories which are still reflecting its presence at modern days but the time and space had changed eventually. These are the mainly source of inspiration which insisted me doing the works dealing with the mythological characters. Now-a-days, we can match such characters like Lord Krishna or Lord Vishnu to as superheroes in the films also. I have portrayed such popular supernatural characters in my paintings. In this traditional art practice, I am basically representing the modern technological time as well as materialistic world through the ancient mythological stories. Now, in present context; the whole universe is into our grip by the internet. So, here in my painting I have placed an earth into the little Krishna’s mouth which is printed with different internet icons like Google, Gmail, face book, twitter etc which are the main sources by which we can connect with the whole world now. Thus, the universe has been transformed in the other way.

These is done purposefully so that viewer can related with the paintings very easily as these are very contemporary with our recent world and become the part of our lives. Now-a-days we cannot imagine our day without these Cyber culture. These are the core element and the main concept of my works.
