Jai Krishna Agarwal
Prof. Jai Krishna Agarwal former Principal cum Dean College of Arts & Crafts, University of Lucknow; Fellow Uttar Pradesh State Lalit Kala Academy, Lucknow was born at Amroha, India in 1941. He graduated in Fine Arts from the Govt. College of Arts & Crafts, Lucknow in 1962 and later he went to England for advanced work in Printmaking at the Slade School of Fine Arts, London.
Regarded as one of the major Indian printmaker of post independent era Prof. Agarwal is credited for popularizing the art of printmaking in the State of Uttar Pradesh. Widely travelled he has exhibited his creations globally. On numerous occasions he was felicitated and honored for his outstanding contribution. Recipient of several awards he was awarded International award in 1974, National Award in 1979 and in 2015 he was conferred with the highest State Honor of U.P. Government Yash Bharti Samman for excellence in the field of Fine Arts.
Prof. Agarwal besides being a practicing painter, printmaker and photographer had also been teaching art since 1963 His students have earned National and International recognition. He had actively been associated with numerous social, cultural and academic institutions and regularly participated in conferences, seminars, workshops and artist’s camps etc. Although he has experimented almost in all possible mediums but he got his recognition for his meticulously done etchings and aquatints. Based at Lucknow Prof. Agarwal is still continuing with his creative and social activities.
