Born in 1959, Atul Dodiya completed his BFA from the Sir J J School of Art, Mumbai in 1982, and studied at Ecole de Beaux-Arts, Paris in 1991- 1992, on a Scholarship awarded by the French Government. The artist has received a number of awards including the Raza Award, Raza Foundation, 2008; the Sotheby’s Award, 1999; the Civitella Ranieri Foundation Fellowship, Italy, 1999; the Sanskriti Award, 1995, the Fellowship at Sir J.J. School of Art, 1982; Gold Medal by The Government of Maharashtra, 1982; 1st prize, Diamond Jubilee Exhibition, Art Society of India, 1979.
His Recent Shows have met with enormous success and he has exhibited widely at galleries and museums both in India and abroad. He has more than 25 solo shows in India and abroad, including the ones in Nature Morte, Berlin; Vadehra Art Gallery, New delhi; Bose Pacia, New York; Walsh Gallery, Chicago; Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai; Gallery Apunto, Amsterdam, to name a few. Selected group shows include, ‘Tradition & Transition’, Watercolours from India & China, Kalakriti Art Gallery, Hyderabad; ‘Indian Rainbows’, Luce Gallery, Torino, & ‘Of humour, wit & satire’, Gallery Threshold, New Delhi.
